Finding Confidence And Love: Isaac’s Story
Next month marks the first anniversary of our expansion into Michoacán, Mexico. In May 2021, we signed a contract with the government of Michoacán to pioneer family-style care in the capital city of Morelia.
Previously, the only option for orphaned and vulnerable children in Michoacán was institutional care. But thankfully, government wants a better future for their children and invited us to help them establish family-style care in this city.
And thanks to your support, the family-style care movement has been growing in Morelia. We are thrilled that more children – children like Isaac* – are finding the love of a family.
ISAAC’S STORY
Isaac, a young boy from Michoacán, was separated from his family when he was approximately five years old. Authorities removed Isaac from his home because his mother was struggling with substance abuse. She could no longer care for Isaac, and he was being neglected.
While still dealing with the trauma of his past, Isaac was placed into an orphanage. Although that was a safer environment than he was in previously, studies show that institutional care has damaging physical and emotional effects on children. Isaac needed the individual love and attention found in a stable family environment.
Thankfully, because of you, Isaac did not remain in the orphanage for long.
Once family-style care was approved in Morelia, our team began recruiting and training potential foster families. The Ruiz family had a heart for helping orphaned and vulnerable children and found our team through social media. They became certified to provide family-style care, and shortly after, they welcomed Isaac into their home.
CONFIDENCE AND LOVE
When Isaac first entered family-style care, he was unsure of himself and how he fit into this new environment. He was very shy, and he had difficulty with his fine and gross motor skills.
However, Isaac soon started to feel more confident and comfortable with the Ruiz family. He began to think of their house as his home. As his confidence grew, Isaac started to play more. The family learned that he loves super heroes and riding his bike.
And along the way, Isaac started reaching new milestones. His motor skills have improved, along with his cognitive abilities and his memory. He has been adapting to his new environments – both in his home and at school.
Through loving family-style care, Isaac is confident that he is valued and cherished. We are so grateful he has found the love of a family.
And we are so grateful to you for making it possible! Your support and generosity are making such a difference across the globe.
Thank you for changing Isaac’s life. Together, we are changing the way the world cares for orphans!
