A New Chapter: Diego’s Story

It's a new year...and for many of us, the start of another year represents a new beginning. A fresh start. A new chapter in our lives.

Often times, orphaned and vulnerable children need new beginnings as well. And thanks to you, more and more children are finding those new beginnings in the love of a family.

So what better way to kick off 2022 than with another story of hope…a life changed through loving family-style care! Read on to find out how you helped Diego, a young boy from Chihuahua, Mexico, start a new chapter of his life.

Diego’s Story

Like many orphaned and vulnerable children, Diego experienced trauma and loss at an incredibly young age. When he was just eight months old, he was removed from his biological family due to neglect. 

In many parts of the world, the only option for a child like Diego would be to go into an orphanage. His emotional, psychological, and physical development would be at risk, as he would not be getting the individual attention and care a child of that age needs. In addition, he would risk getting lost in a system where children often fall through the cracks.

But thanks to you, there was a better option for Diego!

Hope in Chihuahua

With your support, The Hope Effect has been working to expand family-style care in Chihuahua for the last several years. After authorities removed Diego from his home, they contacted our team. 

Immediately, a family opened their home and hearts to Diego, and he was placed in family-style care. Because of his traumatic past, he cried night and day. But the family had unending compassion for this beautiful baby boy.

He was given the love, care, and individual attention every child needs and deserves. Through love and support of a family, Diego began to grow, physically and emotionally. 

Developmentally, Diego started hitting huge milestones in family-style care. He began to walk and learned that he loves playing in the backyard. He also developed a healthy appetite – he loves to eat! And emotionally, Diego grew in confidence and felt safer and more secure as he bonded with his family. 

Today, Diego is a happy, healthy little boy! He was recently reunited with members of his extended biological family, and he is growing and thriving.

This is all because of you! Your continued support is making such a difference in the lives of children like Diego, and we are so grateful. As we move forward in 2022, we can’t wait to share even more stories of the lives you’re changing through loving family-style care.
