When The Hope Effect was founded just over five years ago, our first location was in Honduras. We have such a love for the people there, and it’s always been clear there is a huge need in the area of orphan care.

While it’s difficult to know with certainty exactly how many orphaned children are in Honduras, recent estimates indicate that there are more than 150,000 orphaned and vulnerable children in this country.

These children are not invisible or forgotten. And we want them to know what it means to be part of a stable, loving family.

Since 2019, we have been working with our partner organization, Legacy of Hope Foundation, to provide family-style care to children in the town of Santa Rosa de Copán, Honduras. Thanks to your generosity and support, we are on the leading edge of providing family-style care for orphaned and vulnerable children in Honduras.

You’ve already helped so many kids find loving, stable care. And now in this new year, we are thrilled to announce there is a new opportunity to get more kids in loving families than ever before!

Leading The Way

Recently, our partner organization contributed to a new protocol for family-style care that was developed in Honduras. That new protocol is being implemented in phases as a pilot program in various locations throughout the country.

Last month, our team entered into a new agreement with the government of Honduras to participate in the pilot. We are the only nonprofit organization in this region of Honduras to be invited to participate, and we’re so thankful for the opportunity to expand family-style care further in this location.

We received the initial training in December, and recently hired a new director to facilitate the program. Next month, the government will certify the existing families under the new protocol, and our goal is to recruit, train, and certify five additional families as soon as possible.

Advocating For Children

Under the new protocols, the government will conduct regular case reviews of orphaned and vulnerable children. The children will have an advocate working to find a permanent family solution.

This is an important step, because far too often, children fall through the cracks as their files get buried under other paperwork. We are thankful that the government sees the importance of advocating for these kids, and we are optimistic for the future of this program.

Thank You For Changing Lives

Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity. You make all this possible…and you are having such an impact in Honduras. We can’t wait to share stories of the lives you’re changing in Santa Rosa.

Thank you for providing loving family environments for the children of Honduras…and thank you for changing the way the world cares for orphans!
