2020 Year in Review
How do we begin summarizing a year like 2020? We’ve all heard this year described as “unprecedented,” “uncertain,” and “challenging.” While those words are certainly accurate, we also look back and see a year full of tremendous hope, compassion, and generosity.

Sonora, Mexico
It was an incredible year for The Hope Effect in Sonora, Mexico! In February, after years of working and building relationships, we became the first nonprofit to receive government approval to provide family-style care in the state of Sonora.
In August, the first child ever in Sonora was placed into the arms of a loving family, without ever seeing the inside of an orphanage! Since then, more children have been placed in family-style care, and we continue to recruit and train families. We look forward to continuing the momentum into the new year! Thank you for making this happen…you are changing lives in Sonora, and we are so thankful.
Chihuahua, Mexico
In Chihuahua, Mexico, you are continuing to help family-style care expand farther, faster. More and more children are getting out of orphanages and into loving families. Because of you, children like Jorge, Alicia, and Juan are growing up with the love, protection, and stability of a family.
And there’s more great news! Because the program in Chihuahua has been so successful, other local and state governments have become more receptive to implementing family-style care. What a huge win for orphaned and vulnerable children…thanks to you!
Santa Rosa, Honduras
Thanks to you, we are on the leading edge of providing family-style care for orphaned and vulnerable children in Santa Rosa, Honduras.
In late 2020, our team signed a new contract with the Honduran government that will expand family-style care and get more kids in loving families than ever before. We’ve already begun training additional families, and we can’t wait to share more stories of the difference you make in Honduras in 2021!
Celebrating 5 Years of Hope
It's fitting that today, December 17, marks the five-year anniversary of The Hope Effect. We started out in 2015 with the belief that every child deserves a family and the dream (the BIG dream) of changing the way the world cares for orphans.
And from the very beginning, we knew we couldn’t do it alone. We knew that incredible supporters like you would make our dream a reality. Thank you for all you’ve done over these last five years - just take a look!
More than $1.2 million has been raised for orphan care since The Hope Effect was founded.
More than 2,200 people have donated and become part of the solution.
Approximately 180 people give monthly to help children find families.
We added 300 new supporters this year.
And in 2020, you made history with our biggest fundraising day EVER on GivingTuesday. Thanks to you, we raised more than $86,000 in one day!
