Hope For The Future: Carolina’s Story

November is National Orphan Awareness Month. It's a wonderful opportunity to support the millions of children around the world who need a loving family.

We believe every child deserves a family. And we imagine a day when every child will be raised in a supportive, loving family environment. But we can’t do it alone – and that’s where you come in!

Because of you, orphaned and vulnerable children around the world are growing up knowing the love of a family. These kids come from hard places, and you are giving them hope for a future.

Thanks to you, children like Carolina*, a baby girl from Chihuahua, Mexico, have hope for a future.

Carolina’s Story

Carolina was separated from her biological mother immediately after she was born. Sadly, her mother struggled with drug addiction and used drugs throughout the pregnancy. As a result, authorities removed Carolina from her mother’s care while she was still in the hospital.

Carolina’s exposure to drugs while in utero put her at risk of many different physical and developmental issues for children. When a mother uses drugs during pregnancy, almost every drug and medicine passes from the mother’s bloodstream to the baby. So when Carolina was born, she actually had to withdraw from the drugs her mother had used.

And as she fought for her life in the hospital, her future was uncertain.

In many other parts of the world, Carolina would have been processed and placed into an orphanage. She would have gone through the withdrawal process while being cared for by a rotating staff of employees.

But thankfully, there was another option for Carolina – a better option.

Hope For The Future

After Carolina was discharged from the hospital, authorities contacted our team in Chihuahua. Instead of being placed into an orphanage, Carolina was placed into the loving arms of a family.

Carolina’s medical needs required a great deal of individual attention and care, which she received within this loving family. When she first arrived, Carolina needed daily medication as she was still experiencing symptoms from withdrawal.

She was very restless, and she was not eating or sleeping well – all of which are common symptoms of withdrawal in infants. In addition, she did not show much facial expression.

But through the love of a family, Carolina began to heal. She started eating more, and as a result, she began to grow and gain weight. Carolina is also hitting new developmental milestones. She smiles, babbles, and interacts with the family.

Although she still has a long road to recovery and her journey won’t be easy, we know Carolina will continue to grow and thrive as she is surrounded by love. We are so thankful this beautiful little girl has hope for her future thanks to you. Thank you for changing Carolina’s life. Thank you for being her hero!

Give Hope This GivingTuesday

You are making such a difference in the lives of kids like Carolina all around the world. And in just a few weeks, there's an exciting opportunity for you to help even more orphaned and vulnerable children find loving families.

GivingTuesday, a worldwide day of generosity, is coming up on Tuesday, November 29. GivingTuesday is a global movement that encourages individuals and communities to give back and make a difference.

Every year, you amaze us with your generosity on GivingTuesday. Last year, GivingTuesday was our largest single fundraising day EVER…you raised more than $117,000 in one day! Your generosity allowed us to continue growing family care across the globe. And this year, we invite you to join us once again to change the way the world cares for orphans.

This GivingTuesday, our goal of $125,000 will be used to help us grow in our current locations AND expand into our next new location in 2023! That’s right…we’ve already identified another opportunity to change lives around the world!

And on GivingTuesday, you can double the impact of your gift! A generous team of donors will match every gift dollar for dollar, up to $62,500! If we reach that matching gift amount, we’ll meet our goal of $125,000!

If you’d like to help us hit the ground running, our GivingTuesday donation site is up and running! All donations made through the GivingTuesday page will be matched.

Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity. Together, we are changing the way the world cares for orphans…because every child deserves a family.
