Being the first ain’t easy, but that didn’t stop you!

Thanks to your support, The Hope Effect is the first nonprofit to receive government approval to provide family-style orphan care in Sonora, Mexico! Your generosity helped pave the way — you are opening doors for children to find loving families.

Currently, The Hope Effect is partnering with the government of Sonora to pioneer our innovative model of orphan care in the capital city of Hermosillo. There are almost 1,000 orphaned and vulnerable children living in government-run orphanages in this city. Together with the state DIF (Mexico’s version of Child Protective Services), we are working to get those children out of institutional care and into loving families.

The first child in Sonora was placed in family-style care in the summer of 2020. Now, we’re looking to expand family-style care even farther in Sonora. We can’t wait to continue our work in cities like San Luis Río Colorado, where we’ve been building relationships for the past few years.
