For the last several years, you have been changing the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in our locations in Mexico and Honduras. Because of you, more and more children have gotten out of orphanages and into loving families - where they belong.

Now, we are thrilled to announce that because of your continued support, the family-style care movement is growing and expanding across the globe. Our work and results in Mexico and Honduras have paved the way, and we are now broadening our reach into Southeast Asia.

The Need in THAILAND

There are approximately 100,000 children living in orphanages in Thailand…but the reason for that may surprise you. The number one reason for family separation in Thailand is poverty. Research indicates that up to 95% of those 100,000 children have family who could care for them. Those families often send their children to orphanages thinking they'll have safe shelter, nutritious food, and access to education.

Unfortunately, many families are unaware of the damaging long-term physical and psychological effects of growing up in an institutional environment. When children do not receive adequate personal interaction within a loving environment, development is stunted and learning abilities are delayed or lost.

In addition, more than 50% of private orphanages are unregistered, with no oversight from the social welfare department in Thailand. This leaves children highly vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, and severe mental deficits.

Our Approach in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, the second largest province in Thailand, is no exception. There are an estimated 600 private orphanages in Chiang Mai alone. These children deserve better. And thanks to you, we are working toward a better future for the orphaned and vulnerable children in Chiang Mai.

With your partnership, we are working to get more children out of orphanages and into loving families. We are thrilled to be joining forces with experienced partners in Chiang Mai as we focus on two key areas: reintegration and prevention.

• Reintegration: We’ll be working to get children out of institutional care and back in their families. We will facilitate the reintegration of children who are currently living in orphanages back into their loving families.

• Prevention: By focusing on prevention, we will keep more children with their loving families. We will provide education and resources to strengthen families and prevent them from surrendering their children to an orphanage in the first place.

Because of your generosity and support, more children in Chiang Mai will get out of orphanages…and instead will grow up knowing the love of a family.
